We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Design Engineer to shadow our Chief Design Engineer in the transition to planned semi-retirement.
What you’ll be doing:
- New product design from initial feasibility studies, prototyping, environmental, EMC and performance testing through to production testing and product launch.
- Meeting agreed project timescales and allocated budgets.
- Conduct detailed hardware and software design.
- Train & support of junior team members.
- Work with other disciplines within an integrated team.
- Generation of design, test and installation / user documentation & manuals.
- Design and build of special to type test equipment for production testing.
- Occasional installation and commissioning support on marine vessels within the UK and overseas.
- Delivering inhouse and customer training seminars.
- Liaise with Notified Bodies (TUV, DNV etc).
Your qualifications, skills and experiences:
Qualifications:
· Degree in electronic engineering including control system theory with a minimum of 7 years post-graduation experience.
Essential:
- Proven knowledge and experience of digital & analogue electronics technologies.
- Schematic design, capture and PCB layout.
- Ability to create and maintain technical documentation that supports the product development process including product specifications, manuals and end user instructions.
- Ability to create and give presentations to customers and partners.
- Experience of the full design lifecycle, including taking designs from initial negotiations through requirements capture, sub-system design, hardware design and test to final integration.
- Ability to work autonomously and to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Good man management skills.
- Understanding of qualification standards.
- Ability to demonstrate a good appreciation of cost and schedule constraints on designs, to meet programme needs.
- An inquisitive mind-set, articulate, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Required documentation:
- Evidence of eligibility to work in the UK.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Passport.
Desirable:
- Experience with marine vessel steering control and navigation systems would be especially desirable.
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic control systems.
