Job Description

The Data Centre Engineering Team manages a global estate of data centres with multiple megawatts of capacity. It’s a fast-paced environment experiencing rapid growth, providing an excellent opportunity for candidates wanting to work with the latest technologies and infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced Data Centre Engineer to work within the Data Centre Engineering team, designing, building and maintaining the data Centre infrastructure.

This is a role based in our new Soho Place office – opened in 2023 - in the heart of Central London and home to our Research Lab.

Do you want to tackle the biggest questions in finance with near infinite compute power at your fingertips?

We are a leading quantitative research and technology firm, with offices in London and Dallas. We are proud to employ some of the best people in their field and to nurture their talent in a dynamic, flexible and highly stimulating culture where world-beating ideas are cultivated and rewarded.

Key responsibilities of a Data Centre Engineer include:

  • Managing the hardware deployment lifecycle, from procurement to handover to customer
  • Working closely alongside Network and Infrastructure teams
  • Designing new sites and managing upgrades to old sites (racks, cabling, hardware placement)
  • Liaising with third party data centre, colocation and service providers
  • Supporting Data Centre Ops and providing technical assistance
  • Monitoring the Data Centre environment and maintaining the team’s DCIM solution
  • Capacity planning and reporting
  • Assisting with the deployment of physical security solutions
  • Occasional onsite hardware racking and cabling
  • Maintaining and improving team documentation and knowledgebase
  • Out of hours on-call rotation for critical incident response

While this is primarily an office-based role, we have data centres in multiple regions and as such, national and international travel might be required for approximately one week, every two to three months. Some weekend work may also be necessary.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Previous experience in a Data Centre Operations role, including hardware racking and cabling, across multiple data Centre locations
  • A broad IT infrastructure and networks understanding
  • In depth knowledge of server hardware, ideally HPE
  • Proactive and positive approach
  • Strong organisational skills, including project management
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills

One thing all successful candidates have in common is a passion to use technology, new concepts and new ideas to solve complicated problems.

Why should you apply?

  • Highly competitive compensation plus annual discretionary bonus
  • Lunch provided (via Just Eat for Business) and dedicated barista bar
  • 30 days’ annual leave
  • 9% company pension contributions
  • Informal dress code and excellent work/life balance
  • Comprehensive healthcare and life assurance
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Monthly company events
