Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for enabling the production of leading edge products, ranging from medical devices, to particle physics equipment.

You will be working closely with the design team leader, project engineers, physicists, purchasing and other production staff.

Job Summary:

To safely and sustainably provide an engineering function to the Unit Manager or Supervisor, to ensure the production targets of the relevant Cell are met. To be responsible for producing work instructions and technical documents during the design phase, to assist the Designer to produce drawings and parts lists on time, and parts to be delivered into the Cell, to enable the Cell to produce on time products.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Production:

To enable the cell to produce products within the Cell, according to the requirements of the Company, using the Master Operational Plan (MOP) or project schedule, and to ensure these products meet the required quality level and are produced within the time allowance. Your role in this process is to ensure that the Cell has at all times:

1. Up to date work instructions, drawings and parts lists

2. Adequate process information

3. Sufficient tooling

4. Sufficient parts and materials to meet output targets

5. Timely and relevant engineering support

6. Realistic cost targets which are compatible with product margin objectives.

7. Up to date Health and Safety information and equipment.

To identify tooling and process changes which may be necessary to enable the Cell to achieve its cost, improvement and quality targets. All of the above will require you to liaise with and co-ordinate activities with Design & Purchasing functions within the business, and to work closely with the Cell Leader, Supervisors and Managers.

Communication:

To communicate with Design and Procurement resources to ensure they meet the needs of the Cell, and to effectively communicate with the Cell Leader, Supervisor or Manager to ensure the MOP requirements are achieved or surpassed.

To actively seek guidance from other areas of the Company, to fully understand and be able to execute all associated processes and technologies required for the successful production and testing of products within the Cell.

Planning & organisation:

To contribute to the Cell by ensuring the right tools, equipment, & processes are available to execute the requirements of the MOP.

Documentation:

To ensure that all technical documentation and drawings, are available to the Cell at the right time, according to the MOP or schedule issued by the Manager. Work instructions and test documents will be written by the engineering group, which could be Project Engineer or Production Engineer. Drawings will be produced by a Design Draughtsperson; sometimes the Production Engineer will be responsible for producing drawings or sketches, particularly for tooling or items required quickly on a project.

Technical:

Being fully competent in all methods & measurements of processes within your Cell you will provide support, as required, to all personnel on technical issues that relate to the activities within the Cell. As an Engineer, you will be frequently asked to provide support for other areas of the Company, and this will mean you will report functionally (i.e. on a day-to-day basis) to the relevant manager from this other area of the Company. He/she will measure the success of the delivery of this support as it will be used to measure your performance, in addition to the measurements of your performance by the Unit Supervisor or Manager responsible for the Cell.

Financial:

To provide accurate and timely cost information, e.g. process times, materials spend.

People Management:

To carry out staff training in key processes and engineering techniques as well as health and safety procedures to ensure the people within the Cell can correctly and safely execute the requirements of the MOP in terms of methods, quality and time.
