Job Description

If you are an experienced IT infrastructure engineer, we want to hear from you. We specialise in designing and operating real-time power network monitoring and control systems, which are part of the UK’s national infrastructure, like IT system monitoring, but for the electricity grid.

Why join us?

Our IT team does more than just keep the server lights on, we help keep the lights on across the country supporting the UK's Critical National Infrastructure and electricity grid. We work closely with the wider business to solve real problems for real customers, making a tangible impact. We're a tight-knit group focused on meaningful work, automating away the mundane and repetitive tasks.

A great benefit of joining is that the products and services developed by the company are in themselves exciting technologies - both hardware and software. You'll frequently work with this technology and help develop it further, keeping your work varied and interesting. For example, our team engineered the high availability and failover mechanisms for our main software product, iHost!

We believe the best ideas emerge when working together in person, which is why we collaborate in-person at the office 5 days a week. Please do not apply if this working environment doesn't suit you. You'll thrive in this role if you enjoy creative problem solving rather than just routine maintenance and closing IT requests.

Responsibilities:

  •     Managing 2nd and 3rd line IT infrastructure incidents and problems via our Jira-based ITSM
  •     Deploying and maintaining our on-premise IT infrastructure at our datacentre, including VMware clusters, SANs, switches, firewalls, and new hyper-converged cluster
  •     Efficiency improvements and DevOps with automation and infrastructure as code (Git, Ansible, PowerShell)
  •     Designing and delivering IT and customer projects, including new IT service deployments
  •     Routine maintenance, patching, testing, upgrades, and proactive system performance monitoring to identify and resolve potential issues
  •     Implementing and optimising IT security measures, including IPsec VPN diagnostics and IT auditing, to protect company data and systems
  •     Supporting ISO 27001 compliance and meeting IT security standards, including risk management and mitigation
  •     Assisting with disaster recovery planning and execution, ensuring business continuity
  •     Managing asset lifecycles, procurement, and liaising with suppliers/providers
  •     Creating and maintaining technical documentation to ensure knowledge sharing and providing end-user training to enhance productivity

Basic qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, OR 5+ years experience in IT infrastructure engineering in lieu of a degree
1+ years of experience managing VMware virtualisation environments

Preferred skills and experience

  •     IT infrastructure certifications (CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Security+, CCNA, VMware Certified Professional)
  •     Experience in computer networking, routing protocols, and network engineering, IPSec VPN, firewall, and WAN technologies
  •     Experience with using of CI/CD pipelines and automation tools (e.g., Git, Ansible, PowerShell)
  •     Experience managing VMware virtualisation environments and hyper-converged infrastructure
  •     Strong understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems and system administration
  •     Exceptional problem-solving abilities with good customer service and communication skills

About Us:

Delivering Tomorrow’s Power Grid. Today.

The way the world generates and uses electricity is changing fast. With governments setting ambitious targets for reducing CO2 emissions, wind turbines, solar panels, and electric vehicles are becoming part of everyday life.

Today’s power networks need to adapt quickly to meet the demands of this low-carbon future for which our technology is making this possible. We need your enthusiasm and skills to deliver the products and solutions to make this vision a reality.

We are a successful SME based in Evesham, Worcestershire. We supply monitoring and control systems to the Electricity Distribution Industry. Our products can be found in substations and control rooms around the world, helping our customers deliver a more reliable "smart power grid."

We’re a small (circa 35 people) but established company that has experienced strong and consistent growth. Being small eliminates complex management structures and allows us to implement change quickly. Ideas and feedback from team members are actively sought and valued.
