About the Company:

Celebrating our 18th birthday this year, we are an independent agency looking for a Lead Web Developer.

While based in Waterlooville, our 4-Day Working Week combined with hybrid working (2 days onsite and two days remote) makes for a flexible working week and healthy work-life balance.

Lead Web Developer Role & Responsibilities:

We are seeking a highly experienced and results-driven Lead Web Developer to lead and develop client web development. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building, and optimising web applications, driving innovation and improving overall system performance.

As the Lead Web Developer, you will be responsible for shaping and implementing web development strategy, managing a team of developers and collaborating with various departments to deliver high-quality, scalable digital solutions that meet client needs and deliver measurable results.

Reporting to and working with our Head of Design and Development you will be responsible for:

  • Development: Lead the end-to-end design and development of web applications, systems and platforms, ensuring high performance, scalability, and responsiveness.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a small team of developers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Project Management: Working with the Project Coordinator, oversee project timelines, tasks and deliverables, ensuring quality standards are met and deadlines are adhered to.
  • Client Collaboration: Work closely with clients and internal teams to understand business goals and technical requirements, translating these into effective technical solutions.
  • Technology Leadership: Stay ahead of industry trends, evaluating and implementing new tools, technologies and best practices to enhance the team's capabilities.
  • Code Reviews & Best Practices: Conduct regular code reviews, maintain coding standards and ensure the team follows best practices in security, performance and maintainability.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring smooth and secure application functionality.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in front and back-end web development.
  • Proficiency in the following web technologies:
  • WordPress
  • PHP
  • JavaScript
  • React (Next.js)
  • Node.js
  • SASS
  • Familiarity with back-end technologies and database management
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and project management abilities
  • Ability to lead and mentor a team of web developer specialists and work collaboratively with key internal stakeholders
  • A passion for staying updated on web development trends and best practices

Desirable Skills:

  • TypeScript
  • Vercel/GCP/AWS
