Electrical Engineer – Offshore Renewables

Position Overview: As an Electrical Engineer in our Power Networks team, you will play a critical role in designing, analysing and optimising electrical power systems across a variety of power generation, transmission and distribution assets relating to offshore renewables projects. Your deep understanding will enable you to contribute to the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and integration of these systems, helping pave the way for a greener, brighter tomorrow.

Key Responsibilities:

  •     Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, analyse, and optimise electrical systems for offshore wind projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  •     Develop technical specifications, engineering drawings, and documentation for electrical components, systems, and interfaces.
  •     Review power system studies, fault analysis, and protection coordination to ensure the reliability and safety of offshore wind electrical systems.
  •     Provide technical support during project development, construction, commissioning, and operational phases, addressing any electrical engineering challenges that may arise.
  •     Stay updated with the latest advancements in offshore wind technology and incorporate innovative solutions into project designs.
  •     Interface with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure effective communication and project progression.
  •     Contribute to risk assessments and mitigation strategies to ensure the successful execution of offshore wind projects.
  •     Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with team members to foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
  •     Develop relationships with clients, identifying and pursuing project opportunities, and / or providing support and direction on tenders and bids.

Qualifications:

  •     Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Master's degree is preferred.
  •     Proven experience in electrical engineering, specifically focused on offshore wind projects in the UK.
  •     Proven expertise in power system analysis, electrical equipment specification, and integration of renewable energy sources.
  •     Detailed knowledge of the design, specification, construction, operation and maintenance of distribution and transmission level power networks electrical plant including gas and air insulated switchgear, transformers, dynamic reactive         compensation and harmonic filters. Particular experience of power cables desirable.
  •     In-depth knowledge of relevant industry standards such as IEC, DNV, and UK Grid Codes.
  •     Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  •     Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards achieving it is advantageous.
  •     Previous experience with project management and familiarity with project management methodologies is desirable.
